Brief description
"St John the Baptist’s Church in Stanwick St John, North Yorkshire, is a historic Grade I listed building nestled within one of Britain’s largest Iron Age hillforts. Dating back to the 13th century, with earlier Anglo-Saxon origins, the church features striking medieval stonework, a distinctive battlemented tower, and beautifully preserved Victorian restorations by architect Anthony Salvin. Inside, visitors can explore centuries-old carvings, memorials, and a 17th-century bell set. Now cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust, the church offers a peaceful and atmospheric glimpse into over a thousand years of spiritual and architectural history, set in the tranquil rural landscape near Richmond."
