Brief Description:

There has been a church on this site since before 1130, with the Norman stone church that existed here in 1130 being rebuilt and enlarged between 1250 and 1258. The present church was built around 1430, however the spire dates from 1832 when the upper part of the tower was renewed. St Mary the Virgin church is the largest in Essex.
