Brief description

"There has been a church on this site since at least Elizabethan times. The present building was completed in 1896. The stained glass windows were added at various points in the history of the church. St Mary's church featured in the TV series, Heartbeat, set in the Goathland area. The font on the left as you enter has been in use for at least 1,000 years. The Mouseman, Robert Thompson of Kilburn, carved much of the woodwork and there is a "Mouse Trail" to spot the 8 or 9 wooden mice. To the left of the altar is a stone altar slab dating back to the twelfth century."
