"Spend some time in St Mary's and you will be richly rewarded. Originally built by nuns, the church now consists of a thirteenth-century nave and chancel, while the transepts and flint tower are nineteenth-century additions.

Highlights include the remains of thirteenth-century wall paintings, including one of St Christopher. Also search out the graves of two commanders of the British Army - General Henry 'Hangman'; Hawley, who defeated Bonny Prince Charlie at Culloden, and Field Marshal Lord Alanbrooke, Churchill's closest military advisor during the Second World War."
