St Michael's is 4-5 miles south west of Richmond, taking a sharp right turn off the A6108 Reeth Road. A pebbled pathway leads to the church entrance. Take three steps down with short railings left and right attached diagonally to the church wall then go through double wooden doors inside where the church is well lit, with flagstone floors and two steps before the altar. There are boxed pews and stone columns. The oak pulpit is nicely carved with fruit and decorative ecclesiastical symbols.

Brief description

St Michael and All Angels is Grade II listed. It originates from 1180, with alterations carried out in the following three centuries. Until the Great Plague, it was at the centre of the village but following that the village was built further away. There are lime kilns with a permissive, if rough, track nearby. It is likely that the access path to the church once formed part of the corpse roads of North Yorkshire. The church has a 12th century font, a 14th century lancet window, 12th century stone heads with one possibly Celtic stone head reused. In the graveyard is a 13th or 14th century coffin with a chamfered cover. The traces of a more elaborate 14th century window suggest that this was once a more important church.
