Brief Description:
St Paul's Cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of London and sits on Ludgate Hill at the highest point of the City of London. The site has seen several churches and cathedrals since the early 7th century and the dedication to St Paul goes back to that era.
The current building was famously designed by Sir Christopher Wren following the damage caused to the previous building during the Great Fire of London in 1666. It is surrounded by smaller churches that Wren also designed prior to the cathedral.
The cathedral has seen services for some of the most important historical events in the past few hundred years, from the funerals of Lord Nelson and Winston Churchill to the weddings of Charles and Diana and the peace services marking the ends of WWI and WWII.
There are many striking architectural features on and in the cathedral, from the world famous dome and Renaissance west front on the exterior to the awe inspiring apse and high altar ceilings and underneath of the dome.
The price of admission includes entry to the Cathedral floor, crypt and the three galleries in the dome plus multimedia guides and guided tours (subject to availability). Admissions Policy: During sightseeing hours complimentary entry can be granted to a disabled visitor and an accompanying carer or necessary companion. Please request these tickets on arrival. Please let staff know if there are any specific access requirements or assistance you need.
