Brief description
"St Peter's church sits on the western edge of the village on the southern side of the Buckminster Road. Sadly this church is not some medieval masterpiece, indeed it is not even the venue for the events listed in this transcript. The village's original church was demolished in Victorian times and the present St Peter built in 1865. The church uses the style of the Early English Gothic period, which raises speculation as to that being the period of its predecessor. Some reused material are within the northern aisle. Otherwise the only notable feature is the western tower complete with its broach spire. Whilst the church is undoubtedly pleasant it didn't excite Pevsner whose account consist of just 3 plines of mainly descriptive text. Hall Lane to the east of the church is quieter for parking and both it and Buckminster Road have gated entrances into a churchyard with few obstacles for the photographer."

"Stainby is small rural hamlet. The population and church community are made up of commuters and their families, farmers and their families and retired people. There are no shops and the church is the only community building.
We are a family-friendly, mixed congregation, of all ages, who are open, welcoming, generous, friendly and fun. We are neither High Church nor Low Church, but rather, we believe that “God is Love” and want to be encouraged by our worship. Our services are family focused and followed by delicious ‘bring and share’ refreshments with Pimms in the summer and mulled wine in the winter.
The church has no heating, no water and no toilets. There are four gas heaters! They make some small difference but mainly people just wrap up warmly!
We are planning to illuminate the church steeple so that in the evenings it may light the way for our community as a symbol of God’s love on their evening journey home."
