Accessibility:

There are two car parks within walking distance of the quarry workings.  There are no designated disability spaces and the car parks are gravel or compacted soil. Paths to the quarries and the workings are generally unsurfaced and unneven so great care should be taken. They are probably not suitable for wheelchairs.

Brief Description:

This is a large area of abandoned limestone quarries, also known as Herbert’s Quarry, in the Brecon Beacons National Park Black Mountain region.

The lime from the quarries was used in a great many industries from farming and building to iron production. The quarries were in constant use until production ceased in the 1950s.
