Brief description
Townend, so called because it is on the edge of the village of Troutbeck, is a farmhouse dating from 1626. It is of special interest because it had remained in the Browne family until it was taken over by National Trust in 1947. Because of this it contains original furniture and artifacts from this prosperous farming family. However its rooms are very dark which may cause problems for some visitors.
