Accessibility
The site features mainly gravel and paving/flagstone surfaces. There is disabled access to the grounds only, with a ramp leading into the Lower Magazine. There are also handrails and assistant dogs are permitted. Unfortunately there is no disabled toilet available. Transcripts of audio tours are also available
Brief description
Set in tranquil grounds adjoining a riverside village, this rare example of an Elizabethan artillery fort was begun in 1559 and redeveloped in 1599-1601, to protect warships moored at Chatham dockyards

There is a very small car park available, with 20 spots. Located 200 metres from the entrance to the site, visitors will need to cross a quiet village road to access the High Street, before walking down a cobbled street to reach the castle. PARKING IS FREE. Picnic tables available, small shop with food, audio tours, and much more.
