Brief description

"West Wales Willows - Helyg Gorllewin Cymru. Willow weaving studio

Willow Artist in the UK, based in a valley, up a mountain in beautiful West Wales. Also willow grower"

"Located in a scenic valley, halfway up a mountain, the National Plant Collection of Salix (willow) is set in a sloping field with grass pathways. Approx 260 varieties are on show, including varieties for pollinators, autumn colour, bio fuel, hedging and windbreaks. The field also has sample living willow structures on display including domes, tepee, long arch/tunnel, hedges and a new arbour.

West Wales Willows offers online supplies of living cuttings and rods to grow your own willow for basket weaving, short rotation coppicing as fuel for your wood-burner, early nectar for bees, ornamental uses and living structures such as arches, domes and tunnels.

We also offer a wide range of willow weaving workshops.

The climate here is ideal for willow plants - enough moisture (simply called "rain" by some people) all year round, intermingled with periods of glorious sunshine and blue sky, giving the willows what they need to grow into lovely strong rods.

Willow trees ("withies") have for a long time been part of the local flora, as is mirrored in local place names like "Withybush".

Besides being used for baskets of different types, lobster pots were the main product manufactured from withies in this area."
