Accessibility
"There is a short stay car park in Glamorgan Street immediately adjacent to Y Gaer which is free for Blue Badge holders. It does not need to be pre-booked but there are limited spaces. For disabilities there is wheelchair friendly access to all entrances in Y Gaer and we also have a lift within the museum to get to the second floor. There are also disabled friendly toilets throughout the building." March 2022: "Powys County Councils policy at the moment is that face masks are optional within all Libraries, Museum and Public buildings and we are still operating a Track and Trace system."
"We don’t actually have any dedicated y Gaer parking, so you’d need to look at the local car parks. The nearest one to us is helpfully next door, and called the y Gaer Car park, but it’s short stay only and rather small, so if you need to look elsewhere on the day, you can find a list of car parks in Brecon here: https://en.powys.gov.uk/article/4688/Brecon-car-parks. If you need more detailed directions for any of those, I’d suggest checking https://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking as their maps tend to be helpful!"
"With regards to disabled facilities we have both disabled toilets and a changing places room – for more info on what those facilities include, see the changing places website here: https://www.changing-places.org/ We have a large accessible lift for accessing the first floor of the museum, but obviously as a historical, and listed, building there have been limits to the changes we can make to that side of the building. The majority of the courtroom is wheelchair accessible, but there is a small portion which is only accessible via steep steps. It is however visible form the lower areas of the courtroom that are more wheelchair friendly. Again, certain doorways can be narrow for some mobility devices in the historic Shire Hall, but the majority are manageable and everything in the new build part of the building is built to contemporary access standards."
