"Additional Learning Needs:
As a school, we are committed to ensuring that all learners receive the correct support and guidance they require to reach their potential and gain the skills needed to be active participants in their own education and learning.
We offer an extensive variety of interventions with some pupils having access to the support and guidance of our Nurture staff. Many pupils are supported in the classroom by members of our learning support team while others receive specific sessions with key members of staff. Further support is offered within the departments and in key curriculum areas.
We practise a pupil centred approach, and we take pride in the fact that there is a high level of communication between the school, parents, and the learners to ensure the best possible level of support.
The department also works closely with external agencies. We have established strong links with our feeder primary schools from the Gwendraeth Valley and others within our catchment area. By working closely with our primary schools, we can organise the correct provision before the beginning of Year 7.
The voice of the learner is at the heart of the process of making the appropriate decisions for the learner. We strive to support every pupil to achieve their potential academically, emotionally, and socially. Our aim is to support our pupils to become as independent as possible.
Our pupils are supported by an extensive network of external professionals, alongside our staff who offer specialist advice and support. The support is determined by the needs of the individual.

Brief description
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ysgol_Maes_Y_Gwendraeth
"Ysgol Maes Y Gwendraeth is a bilingual secondary school for pupils aged between 11 and 18 years, situated in Cefneithin, Carmarthenshire, Wales. The school was opened following the amalgamation of Ysgol Maes yr Yrfa and Ysgol y Gwendraeth secondary schools in 2013. As of 2023, there are 1107 pupils on roll at the school.[1]
Welsh is the official language of the school on a daily basis and is the administrative and social medium of communication.[2] The school is categorized linguistically by Welsh Government as a category 2A school. It means that at least 80% of subjects apart from English and Welsh are taught only through the medium of Welsh to all pupils. However, one or two subjects are taught to some pupils in English or in both languages. The school states that all subjects are taught through the medium of Welsh, excluding English and Science (which is taught through the pupils’ chosen language from Year 8 onwards).[2] "

Amenities
"Catering Service:
Secondary school meals
The Carmarthenshire Catering Service provides students with a cafeteria service in 12 secondary schools across the county which offers plenty of choice, great tasting meals and snacks to choose from to help your child get through their busy schedule whilst at school.
All of our menus comply with Healthy Eating in Schools (Nutritional Standards and Requirements) (Wales) Regulations 2013 which became legislative in September 2013. The food we serve is freshly prepared on-site on a daily basis, using good quality ingredients. It is our aim to ensure that all students are provided with healthy, nutritious meals and those students who require special diets are also catered for.
Our menus are nutritionally analysed using specialist software and represent value for money; we promote a range of meal deals which are set at £2.80 which are priced at the same value as our Free Meal allowance. Throughout the year we also organise and promote themed days and competitions to encourage students to try new dishes.
Our cafeteria service has changed significantly over the years with the development of cashless catering systems now in operation in ten of our schools. The systems incorporate the latest technology and eliminate the need for students to carry cash.
Benefits of the cashless system include:
Increased speed of service reducing queuing times
Anonymity on free school meals creating increased equality and inclusion
No need to carry cash preventing loss/theft
Students learn about important lifestyle control by monitoring their own accounts "
