The Beaney has an accessible entrance at Best Lane, with step-free access into the building, a platform lift and a flight of ‘easy going’ steps, which are comfortable for the ambulant disabled and allow for push chairs and other mobility equipment.

The building has accessible toilets on all levels plus baby-changing facilities. Its split level reception and library counters have been used throughout to allow access for both standing and seated visitors.

A 12 space disabled car park is also available at the rear of the building, along with accessible public toilets.

To assist the visually impaired, it also has braille signage and maps available, also numerous Touchable Beaney objects on display including;

Tactile painting in the Materials and Masters gallery

Touchable Epstein in People and Places gallery (please ask a member of staff for gloves)

Carved cabinet in the Materials and Masters gallery

Coming in 2019: It will soon be launching its free downloadable Beacon Beaney Trail app. Created in partnership with Royal National Institute of Blind People, the app enables visitors, including the visually impaired, to navigate their way around The Beaney and discover its collections.

Beaney House of Art & Knowledge, which is an Art Gallery, Library and Visitor Information Centre is situated in the heart of historic Canterbury, at 18 High St, Canterbury CT1 2BD.  It holds exhibitions, talks and workshops as well as other interactive activities for families. Until it closed for refurbishment in 2009, it was known as the Beaney Institute or the Royal Museum and Art Gallery.

Entrance to The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge is free. However, a charge may apply for certain special exhibitions and events. Please see the events listings on its website for full details.
