Brief Description:
"Using the word hospital in the sense of ‘a place of hospitality’, Eastbridge Hospital has been a place of shelter to many for 800 years and for 400 years, a home to a number of elderly people. Today people still reside together at Eastbridge as a Christian community, worshiping in the chapels and welcoming visitors. Tours of Eastbridge hospital are welcomed with the following buildings available to explore - The Chantry Chapel, the under croft with its gothic arches, the refectory with an early 13th century mural and the Pilgrim’s Chapel. Greyfriars Chapel is set in the Franciscan Gardens It is the only building now remaining of the first English Franciscan Friary built in 1267, 43 years after the first Friars settled in Canterbury, during the lifetime of St Francis of Assisi."
