Accessibility:

Disability parking is available within the site, otherwise parking is a short walk away across Blaenavon. Lion Street car park (SO252089) has three disability spaces, James Street Upper and Lower car parks (SO253087) have two disability spaces, Broad Street car park (SO253090) has at least three disability spaces and Prince Street car park (SO251086) has two disability spaces.
Although the site is accessible there are areas where the ground may be unsuitable for wheelchair users or those with mobility- or balance-related disabilities.

There are disability toilet facilities accessed via a ramp.

Dogs on leads are welcome.

Brief Description:

Blaenavon Ironworks started production in 1789 and is now the world’s best-preserved blast furnace complex from the early part of the industrial revolution.

The site now includes extensive remains of the blast furnaces, cast houses and restored Water Balance Tower. There are exhibitions and reconstructions that help visitors to learn about how iron is produced and the history of iron in the area.

Directions:

From the A40 roundabout at Abergavenny (Hardwick Gyratory) take the Heads of the Valleys Road/A465 for half a mile and then take the A4143/B4246 exit towards Abergavenny. Follow the B4246 for about 6 miles to North Street in Blaenavon, where you will pass the fire station on your left, then go around a right-hand bend. The ironworks will be in front of you with an entrance on the left-hand bend in the road.
