Brief Description:

The Conwy Suspension Bridge, a Grade I listed structure built by Thomas Telford in 1822–26, is one of the world's oldest road suspension bridges. Although it originally carried the road from Chester to Bangor it is now in the hands of the National Trust and only allows foot traffic.

The 99.5-metre-long bridge replaced a ferry which used to cross at the same point next to Conwy Castle and is similar in style to Telford's Menai Strait bridge, but he designed this bridge to mirror the look of the adjacent castle. The wooden deck was replaced with iron in the late 19th century and wire cables were added above the original iron chains in 1903 to strengthen them. A new road bridge was built alongside it in 1958.
