Brief Description:

The Millennium Gallery was opened in 2001 and was built as part of a £120 million regeneration project that also created the Winter Garden and Peace Garden. It houses permanent exhibition as well as temporary ones. It also has space which can be hired out for weddings and corporate events. The permanent exhibitions include the Ruskin Collection and a Metalwork Collection. In 2011 the Millennium Gallery was listed with Visit England as the 15th most visited free attraction in the country.

2025: "The gallery’s changing exhibition programme showcases the best in national and international art and design alongside the region’s remarkable creative talents. You’ll also find collection displays celebrating Sheffield’s metalworking prowess and the remarkable art and artefacts brought to the city by the artist and writer, John Ruskin.

Sheffield’s Metalwork Collection is one of the finest in the world. You’ll see over 800 examples of the cutlery, flatware and tableware that have made the city famous, as well as beautiful objects collected from every continent.

The gallery is also home to the Guild of St George’s unique Ruskin Collection. Spanning art, illustrated manuscripts and minerals, the collection was established in the 1800s to inspire the people of Sheffield. Today, it’s showcased through regularly changing displays celebrating the contemporary relevance of Ruskin’s visionary ideas.

During your visit, you can enjoy great coffee and some truly fantastic grilled cheese sandwiches in our café, Ambulo.

And we'll let you into a little secret – the Millennium Gallery has some of the best shopping in Sheffield. If it's a gift you're after, the Gallery shop has just what you need, from must-have homeware and hand-crafted jewellery to books, cards and stationery.

Suggested donation £5 – please donate if you're able and help keep your museums open and available for everyone to enjoy."
