Accessibility:

There is no on-site parking, however parking is available in town or on nearby streets. There is level access into the church. Inside the church is wheelchair-accessible, there is a ramp to the toilet area. There are toilets including a disability toilet which is wheelchair-accessible. There is no hearing assistance system. Assistance dogs are welcome.


Brief Description:

St Peter’s Church is a Saxon church which was originally built in around 970AD. It comprised a tower, baptistery and chancel. Further re-building and extensions occurred in the 11th, 14th and 16th Century. It features Gothic, Norman and Anglo-Saxon architecture. It became redundant in 1972 and is now under the care of the English Heritage Trust.  Inside there is over a 1000 years of history. There is a permanent exhibition of artefacts and skeletons that were found during excavations that took place in the 1970s and the 1980s.

Directions:

From Hull via A63 and A15. Head west on A63 and then take the A15 southbound over the Humber Bridge (toll road). Take the A1077 exit eastbound towards Barton/Winterton and continue to follow for 2.5 miles. Turn left onto Whitecross Street. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Beck Hill and your destination will be on the right.


From Scunthorpe via M180. Get on M180 eastbound from A18 at Broughton and follow for 6 miles. Exit at Junction 5 and take the A15/A18 exit to Hull/Airport. At the roundabout take the A15 northbound for 3.7 miles. Take the B1206 exit towards Barrow/New Holland. Continue straight onto Brigg Road/B1218 for 3.1 miles. Turn right onto Preston Lane. Turn left onto Whitecross Street. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Beck Hill and your destination will be on the right.
