Accessibility:

There is limited free parking at the back of the school and further parking in the Town Centre. The museum is fully wheelchair accessible. There are public toilets including wheelchair accessible and baby changing facilities.


Brief Description:

Wilderspin National School was built in 1844 and is one of two thousand infant schools set up by Samuel Wilderspin who was an education pioneer who also taught there. It closed as a school in 1979. The museum features school rooms giving you an idea of school life in Victorian Times. It also gives an insight into what school was like for children during the Second World War. There is also a classroom from 1979. It opened as a museum in January 2009. Guided tours are available for a small fee. There is a café serving refreshments and also a gift shop.

From Hull via A63 (this route has tolls). Follow the A63 for 6.1 miles then take the left lane to take the A15 slip road to York/Beverley/Humber Bridge/A164. Turn left onto A15. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Boothferry Road/A15. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Humber Bridge/A15 and continue for 2.7 miles. Take the A1077 exit towards Barton/Winterton. At the roundabout take the 1st exit onto Ferriby Road/A1077. Go through 1 roundabout. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Hungate. Continue onto High Street. Turn left onto Queen Street and your destination will be on the right.


From Scunthorpe via A1077. Follow the A1077 for 11.6 miles. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Ferriby Road.A1077. Go through 1 roundabout. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Hungate. Continue onto High Street. Turn left onto Queen Street and your destination will be on the right.
