Brief Description:

Withernsea Castle was built in the 19th Century. It was the former entrance to the pier which once stood here. The pier suffered damage in the great storm of 1880 and then was hit by many ships over the following years until the last remains were removed in 1903. All that remains today is the Castle. Withernsea Promenade was first built in 1875 to protect the houses from coastal sea erosion. It was extended in 1910 and again in 1920 and 1960. The Castle Café is opposite the Castle.
