Brief Description:

Situated on the West side of the harbour, half a kilometre [500m] from the Sea Terminal, Douglas Quay offers views over the bay. Along it are the RNLI lifeboat station, Fort Anne and Battery pier.

The Douglas RNLI Lifeboat Station boasts an impressive history. It originally homed Sir William Hillary, the founder of the institution. The current station was one of two stations within Douglas in the 1800s; it opened in 1874 and has been in constant use since.

Fort Anne is an impressive building that overlooks the quay. The original building was demolished in the early 1990s and was rebuilt in 1998 with the consideration of the original architectural style. For many years it had been a hotel; however, it is now privately-owned and offers office rental space.

The construction of Battery Pier was completed in 1879, a few years after the current RNLI lifeboat station was built. At the end of the 750 ft pier is a small lighthouse.
