Accessibility:

There is no parking next to the Boat House or Writing Shed; the nearest parking is the free car park near the castle on The Grist. There are very few marked parking spaces and no dedicated disability spaces. Be warned, this car park is prone to flooding at high tide! Public toilets with disability facilities are available up the hill on Wogan Street. The coast path to the boat house is relatively flat and well paved but you have to turn off this path and go up steps to reach the Boat House from here. The higher path along Dylan's Walk is more sloping and bumpy and the entrance to the Boat House is down a steep flight of steps. There are stairs inside the Boat House as well. There are toilets, but not a disability toilet, and a tea room at the Boat House, whose rooms are well lit.

Brief Description:

Although not his first period of living in Laugharne, The Boat House was Dylan Thomas' most famous home from 1949. Works written at the Boat House include 'Do Not Go Gentle' and 'Under Milkwood'.
The building itself has a history stretching back to the early 1800s and includes everything from regular family life and fishermen to smugglers and famous poets. Its position on the edge of the estuary at Laugharne provides stunning, uninterrupted views as far as Worms Head at Swansea.

The Writing Shed, set a little way up Dylan's Walk from the steps down to the Boat House, can be viewed at any time through a window in the door.  It is set out very much as Thomas would have had it and provides a fascinating insight into the man's day-to-day life.
