Brief description
"Set in the outstanding landscape of Cranborne Chase, the beautifully designed gardens of Larmer Tree were created by General Pitt Rivers in 1880.
Our wonderful 11-acre gardens are set in the heart of Cranborne Chase, an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Wiltshire/ Dorset border well away from the hustle and bustle of busy modern life. The Larmer Tree Gardens, created by General Pitt Rivers in 1880 are an extraordinary example of Victorian extravagance and vision, the perfect country wedding venue. The gardens hold a unique collection of ornate buildings, ranging from the spectacular Singing Theatre to the magical Roman Temple. The majestic trees and intimate arbours create secrecy and surprise whilst the open lawns provide a perfect setting for reception drinks and a relaxing game of croquet. The magical garden welcomes guests to wander through hidden walkways, unwind on the lawns and to discover the unique charm of this beautiful setting. Wide laurel-hedged rides radiate from the magnificent main lawn and take you to the tranquil woodland beyond.
In spring there is a wonderful display of Camellias, and Rhododendrons. In high summer the hydrangea collection makes a striking display of colour, and towering over the ponds we have exceptionally fine and majestic Eucryphias. In autumn, the trees and shrubs, together with the woodland beyond, create a rich tapestry of colour. The Larmer Tree contains a wonderful collection of ornate buildings, with free-flying Macaws and roaming peacocks all retained in an enchanting and tranquil atmosphere." https://www.larmertree.co.uk/gardens
