Accessibility:

There are designated parking bays for Blue Badge holders to the rear of the visitor car park and there are also designated disabled parking bays in front of the museum on Gorsedd Gardens Road.

There is a level access path to and from the visitor car park via Park Place and Museum Avenue and the entrance to the museum for wheelchair users and pushchairs has a self-operated glass lift to the right of the front steps of the museum. There is a lift allowing wheelchair access to all galleries and there are four wheelchairs and six mobile seating sticks available on loan from the information desk.

There are guided audio description tours for visitors who are blind or visually impaired and marketing material is available in large print or on a CD. An induction loop is provided in the Evolution of Wales gallery, the information desk, shop, restaurant and coffee shop counters and in the Reardon Smith Theatre and a mobile induction loop is available for use in the meeting and learning rooms.

The venue has several disability toilets, including a Changing Places disability toilet with a hoist.

The museum shop, coffee shop and Oriel Restaurant are accessible to wheelchair users and accessible toilets are situated in the Oriel Restaurant.

National Museum Cardiff is a museum and art gallery in Cardiff. The museum has collections of archaeology, botany, fine and applied art, geology and zoology. The art collection is one of Europe's finest, with over five hundred years of paintings, drawings, sculpture, silver and ceramics. The Evolution of Wales takes you on a journey from the very beginnings of time, with the Big Bang, to the present day. The Natural History galleries showcase Wales's diverse natural history, from the seashore to the mountains. The Clore Discovery Centre offers hands-on exploration of museum objects such as insects, fossils and Bronze Age weapons.

Museum car park £6.50, although Blue Badge holders are entitled to free parking – please take your blue badge to the museum shop to obtain an exit token (please note: other car parks may charge).

Directions:

From the M4 take junction 32 onto the A470 towards Cardiff (N). Follow this for about 4 miles, all the time following the signs for Cardiff city centre. After 4 miles take a left turn onto the A4161 – signposted towards the ‘National Museum Cardiff’. At the junction at the end of this road turn left onto Park Place and first left again onto Gorsedd Gardens Road (where there is on-street pay and display parking). Follow the road to the right into Museum Road (where there is more on-street pay and display parking) the museum is on the right along this road (including the museum car park).

Amenities:

The museum has both a restaurant and a coffee shop. Oriel Restaurant is on the lower ground floor of the museum and serves hot and cold lunches from 12pm to 2.30pm, a range of sandwiches and baguettes, home-made soup, cakes and hot and cold drinks. It can also provide special portions and meals for children. The Coffee Shop is in the Main Hall serving a variety of home-made cakes and sandwiches and also hot and cold drinks.
