Accessibility:
The woodland and river sites have their own car parks, although there are no disability spaces. The car park and area at Pwll Bo is tailored more towards disabled people, with the car park area made of tarmac and a trail specifically for wheelchair users. There are no toilet facilities on site. The Afon Irfon Walk, which starts from the Pwll Bo car park, is an easy, level walk with no steps that is suitable for all. There are a number of benches along the way.
Brief Description:
Nant Irfon National Nature Reserve is located in the hills above the Afon Irfon valley. It includes vast moorlands, striking conifer forests, steep slopes and rocky crags with oak woodland.
The Pwllgolchi and Pwll Bo were specifically created to allow the beauty of the area to be enjoyed by people of any ability. Pwllgolchi is a natural, circular pool in the river Irfon which is a common swimming area and Pwll Bo is the start point for two walking trails through the Irfon Forest. Directions:
From the centre of Llanwrtyd Wells (the A483/Ffoss Road) Follow the road signposted towards Abergwesyn, called Dolecoed Road. Follow this narrow lane through Llanwrtyd and Cwm Irfon. Pwllgolchi is on the right after about 3 miles. To get to Pwll Bo, continue along the unnamed road for just over half a mile. The turning for the car park is on the right.
