Accessibility

The is level access at the Museum and at Burns Cottage.  The Burns Monument Gardens are wheelchair accessible. Both the museum and the Education Pavilion (next to Burns Cottage) have accessible toilets. The Auld Kirk, Brig o' Doon and Monument have uneven steps and surfaces. The museum is fitted with induction loops. The museum and Burns Cottage have accessible openings on the first Tuesday of each month, 3-5pm: sound effects are switched off, and interactive screens in the museum are switched off.  The is blue badge parking adjacent to the museum and Burns Cottage.

Brief description

The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and Centre is run by the National Trust for Scotland and the collection of places to visit comprises the Museum, Burns Cottage, Burns Monument and Gardens, the Brig o' Doon and the Auld Kirk (all within 2km of each other).  The museum offers collections about the early years of Burns's life, guided tours and themed events.  There is a cafe/restaurant, and outdoor garden/play space at the museum.

Directions

The museum is located just off the B7024 (turning east into Murdoch's Lone), 4km from Ayr town centre.  Burns Cottage itself is located on the B7024, 1km from the museum, closer to Ayr town centre.

Opening Times

July 2022:

Museum: 10.00-17.00 (closed 25 & 26 December; 1 & 2 January)

Cottage:  11.00-15.30

Transport

The X77 bus from Ayr stops on the B7024 near the museum and near Burns Cottage.

Amenities

There is a post office/village store, and a pharmacy, in Alloway village, adjacent to Burns Cottage.
