Accessibility:

Within the locked gates of the site, near the stage door, are 2 disability parking spaces which must be booked in advance. There is limited disability parking within the vicinity of the theatre on New Globe Walk and in a small car park to the west of the theatre off Park Street. There are further pay-and-display parking spaces in the surrounding roads. The nearest NCP pay and display car park is at the Thames Exchange on the north end of the Southwark Bridge (TQ324807).

The site includes an outdoor and indoor theatre, exhibition space and eateries. The exhibition is accessed via a ramp on Bankside, while the main entrance to the theatre is flat and paved with automatic doors. There are disability toilet facilities within the exhibition, at the Swan Bar / Lower Gallery level in the theatre and on the lower ground level near to the Nancy Knowles Lecture Theatre. Good access around the interior is helped by wide spaces between exhibits and gently sloping ramps and the theatre has a lift to all levels.

Sadly, there is no Shopmobility motorised scooter hire in the Southwark district, however, all of the latest-built taxes and buses must be disability accessible. The one exception to this is the No.15 London heritage route which runs with the iconic old AEC Routemaster double-decker bus (built between the 1950s and 1960s) which has a rear open entrance to enable passengers to get on and off quickly.

Brief Description:

The reconstruction of the Globe Theatre that we see today was finished in 1997 and is a close representation of the one pulled down by the Puritans in 1644-45. The new theatre, tour and exhibition was founded by actor and director Sam Wanamaker and is dedicated to Shakespeare's work through performance and education.
