Accessibility:

There is no official parking for the church and very little in the way of on-street parking due to the width of the lane bordering the church yard and the location of the church yard gate on a blind bend in the road.  As such, care should be taken when visiting the site.

Entrance to the site is either via a double wrought iron gate which, if locked, leaves a wrought iron kissing gate unsuitable for wheelchairs. The path in the church yard, as far as the entrance to the church, is generally flat and wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs.

Brief Description:

St Cathen's Church is a Grade II listed medieval / post medieval building in the middle of Llangathen and was originally a possession of the Prioress and nuns of Chester.

The building is constructed of limestone rubble with different dressings from later restorations. The nave and chancel are thought to date to the 13th century, the north and former south transept originate in the 14th century and the tower is thought to be early 15th century. The south chapel, which originates around from 1600, belongs to the Aberglasney estate and was added as a mortuary chapel for a former occupant of Aberglasney, Bishop Rudd.

The church was restored in 1813 and then re-floored, re-seated and re-roofed in 1868 and again restored in 1899.
