2022: Please note this church is closed until further notice due to storm damage. On the first Saturday of each month St Helen's parishioners host a coffee morning from 10.30 - 12 noon, open to all. The main entrance is via the top path with a slight step up into the church but there is also access for the disabled at the back of the church, reached from the lower path where parking on the lawn to the left makes access easier. The roof was badly damaged in December 2021 and repairs are awaited.

Brief description

St Helen's, a Grade I listed building built in the late 11th or early 12th century, appears in the photographs as a stone building but it has since been whitewashed to keep in line with its original appearance and work has been done with the aid of a grant on church restoration.  It is set in large grounds surrounded by lawn with trees. Inside it is well lit with carpets and dark oak pews on each side of the central aisle. There is a stone cross of St Helena seeing a vision of the Holy cross, as well as depictions of her with an unknown companion. In the grounds opposite there is a memorial to the miners of Trimdon Grange Colliery who died in 1882. This is a beautiful church and well worth a visit.
