2025: "Sir George Gilbert Scott, 1851.St Matthew's is an inclusive church with unique architecture, remarkable history, and a very strong musical tradition; but in the shadow of Westminster Abbey it is often overlooked, making it a real hidden gem. Come and learn about St Matthew's history and community, hear our choir and historic organ, and learn about how we continue centuries of prayer in this holy place."
"St Matthew's is a small church nestled amidst Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral and the great departments of state — proclaiming Christian values of welcome, hospitality, prayer and a sense of the presence of God in the midst of the busy city.
We are a community committed to radical inclusion, where everyone is welcome, whatever their background, beliefs, or where they find themselves on their journey. Our doors are open every day.
Built between 1849 and 1851 to the design of Sir George Gilbert Scott, with later work by G. F. Bodley and Sir Ninian Comper, we stand in the Anglo-Catholic tradition of the Church of England — a tradition we hold gently and inclusively, expressed through the daily rhythm of the Eucharist and the Offices at the heart of our common life."
