Brief description

St Michael and All Angels is Saxon in origin and its Saxon doorway can be viewed through a glass panel in the floor. According to the website, there are also hints of earlier non-Christian worship on the site, including a Roman temple and neolithic worship. A number of what are thought to be neolithic boundary stones were unearthed in 1999. Most of the current building dates to the 13th or 14th century and has been added to over the centuries. A  megalithic Roman-style sarcophagus is said to have been moved in the 1960s to the south transept then to the outer south east end of St Michael's.
