Brief description

"St. Nicholas Church" is a Grade I listed building dating from the mid-13th century.

There is a fine example of a carved stone Chancel Screen with two square squints (openings) and stone stairs (blocked).

The 14th-century wall paintings depicting 'St George Slaying the Dragon' and the Nativity Scene can be seen on the Nave walls.

The carved stone piscina and octagonal font are believed to be 13th century.

The carved pulpit dates from the Jacobean period (1603-1625) and is believed to have originally come from a church in Wiltshire.

The roof dates from the 16th century, with restoration work in 1708.  A carpenter's initials and 1708 have been carved in the timbers confirming the work.

The stained-glass windows date from 19th - 20th centuries.

A full architectural description of the church is available online from the British Listed Buildings website Church of St Nicholas, Baulking, Oxfordshire (britishlistedbuildings.co.uk)
