Brief description

"St. Peter and St. Paul Church" is a Grade I listed building dating from the 12th-14th centuries.

The current church is built on the site of an earlier Anglo-Saxon one (early 11th century), and parts of this early building are incorporated into the North and South Arcades in the present Nave.

Parts of the North Aisle date from the 12th century and were later restored during the 14th century.

The South Aisle, South Doorway and West Tower date from the 13th century.

During the 14th century, the Chancel was built and later restored during the mid-Victorian period (1850s).

The piscina and three-seat sedilia (seat) also date from the 14th century.

In the Chancel, the round-headed windows in the North and South Arcade are believed to belong to the earlier Anglo-Saxon Church.

The Chancel Rood screen dates from the 15th century

The Chancel choir stalls and pews date from 1446 and are fine examples of this period.

In the Nave, some pews date from the 17th century and are also fine examples of this period.

The octagonal stone font is 14th century and the wooden hood dates from the 17th century.

The Pulpit and Reading desk date from the mid-1600s

The medieval wall paintings can be seen on the walls of the North and South Aisle.

The stained-glass windows date from the 19th century installed during the restoration work carried out.
