2025: "We are thrilled to announce that thanks to an Arts Council Grant we now have 6 Dolby Accessibility handsets for use by anyone who is blind or partially sighted and people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

We can provide headphones or you can bring your own (3.5mm jack lead required) and a member of our team will be able to show you how to access either Closed Captions on your handset – which will show descriptive subtitles for most films we show, Enhanced audio – for people who would like the sound to be louder and Descriptive Audio which will describe any dialogue free parts of the film.

Our usual Hard of Hearing and Relaxed Screenings will continue, where descriptive subtitles are played on the screen, but these handsets will allow anyone who needs subtitles to access them for most of our programmed films (please note some smaller independent films may not provide Closed Captions).

The CEA Scheme is The CEA Card is a national card scheme developed for UK cinemas by the UK Cinema Association (UKCA).

The Card enables a disabled cinema guest to receive a complimentary ticket for someone to go with them when they visit a participating cinema.

There are two disabled car parking bays directly in front of the cinema. The ground floor of the cinema is fully wheelchair accessible.

We have 3 accessible seats in the stalls which can be removed to create a wheelchair space and we can create further wheelchair spaces as all our sofas are removable.

There is a disabled toilet attached to the building which requires a Radar key, which we have. Unfortunately you do need to go outside and to the side of the building to get to these toilets.

Every Monday evening our film will have descriptive subtitles. This means that in addition to the dialogue being subtitled (as with a foreign language film) the sounds of the film are also described in the subtitles. For example (joyful music plays) or (gunshots in background)

During our Relaxed Screenings, we relax our Code of Conduct. We appreciate not everyone wants to sit still for a long time in complete darkness and that the ‘normal’ level of sound in a cinema may be a bit much for some.

So, in these screenings we:

Keep the lights on low
Turn down the sound
You are free to move around
You don’t have to remain silent
We keep the bar open so you can get more drinks and snacks if you like
The hatch from the bar to the cinema stays open so you can leave the auditorium but still watch the film"

2025: "The Magic Lantern Cinema’s distinctive red building houses a fully licensed bar, where the Open Mic and Friday Night Is Music Night events are held every week. The theatre includes stalls and balcony sections, with a capacity of over 120 seats (including sofas). The main stage, which was extended a few years ago, can accommodate large bands and stage shows."

"The cinema is located on the A493 and hard to miss!

Coming from Dolgellau/Barmouth direction you will see the cinema on your right as you enter Tywyn.

Coming north from Aberdyfi, the cinema is at the very end of the main high street on your left, just after Cadfans Church.

There are several car parking areas, including 2 disabled spaces immediately in front of the cinema and two car parking areas on Ffordd Gwalia - the road in between the cinema and the church."
