Brief Description:

Founded by Sir John Williams in 1873, The National Library of Wales - the national legal deposit library of Wales and member of the RLUK - is the largest library in Wales and holds over 6.5m books and periodicals, plus archives, portraits, maps and photographic images. It is also home to the national collection of Welsh manuscripts and the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales, as well as the most comprehensive collection of paintings and topographical prints in Wales.

Construction of the first building began in 1911 and took four years to complete with another six months to transfer the collections to it.

As well as being a huge research resource for documents, periodicals, books and maps the library also hosts events including guided tours, talks, presentations and musical events. There are facilities available for hire for weddings and conferences.
