Brief description

"Situated on the lower slopes of the Malvern Hills Old Court Nurseries & The Picton Garden covers 2 acres on the edge of the village of Colwall. The nursery was established in 1906 by Michaelmas daisy breeder Ernest Ballard to start commercially producing his plants. Over the decades he raised many award-winning cultivars including the well-known ‘Marie Ballard’.

We are a small family run plant nursery nestled on the lower slopes of the Malvern Hills. Old Court Nurseries has specialised in Michaelmas daisies since 1906 and now holds the Plant Heritage National Collection of over 430 varieties which are displayed in the charming 1.5-acre Picton Garden.

Winding paths take you round The Picton Garden which is full of unusual plants with something different around every corner. In late winter the star of the show is our collection of snowdrops, later the heritage Narcissus take over. As summer advances the herbaceous plants really start to shine and autumn is the time for the Michaelmas daisies. All of which is complemented by a select collection of trees and shrubs.

Many of the plants seen in the garden can be purchased from the nursery. Almost everything is grown on site and we are proud to use the peat free Melcourt Sylvamix as our growing media."
