Accessibility:

The display collection (approximately 15% of the total) is housed in the ground floor foyer of the AMS (Animal and Microbial Sciences) building in the School of Biological Sciences.  There are parking bays for disabled drivers at the front of the AMS building, a ramp at the entrance to the museum (the microbiology wing) and disability toilets on the ground floor.

By Bicycle:

Enter the campus along Queen’s Drive, continue past the sports grounds, take the first left then turn immediately right at the mini roundabout. The AMS (Animal and Microbial Sciences) building is the tall tower in front of you. There are cycle racks outside, to the right of the steps.

By Car

From the M4 (Junction 11) follow the signs for the University (UoR). From central Reading follow signs for the A327 to Aldershot. The main entrance is on the A327 (Shinfield Road). Enter the campus along Queen’s Drive, pass by the Sports Centre and park in car park 1A (car park 1 is for the Sports Centre only). 

The first 2 hours of each stay will be free, followed by a charge of £3.10 for the rest of the day. Permit holders can park for free as long as a permit is on display. Non-permit holders will be required to display a valid ticket, including for the free two hour stay. The Pay & Display machines will accept payment by credit/debit card, and will not take cash, campus card or mobile phone payments.

There are disabled parking spaces in the car park immediately in front of the museum. Please note that you will need a visitor parking permit to park here, which can be obtained by emailing us or phoning at least one working day in advance.

Opening Times:

The Museum is normally open Monday–Friday 9.30–4.30pm when the University is open. The University of Reading is open during school half-term, but please see specific closure dates below. The University is normally closed on the 8 Public Holidays for England and Wales: New Year's Day, May Bank Holiday, Christmas Day, Good Friday, Spring Bank Holiday, Boxing Day, Easter Monday and the Summer Bank Holiday.

The University is also normally closed on the following 6 Closure Days: the last weekday before Christmas (1 day); weekdays between Christmas and New Year (3 days); the Thursday before Good Friday and Tuesday after Easter Monday (2 days).

There is free admission to the museum.

Transport:

Reading railway station is approximately 30 minutes from London Paddington. From the station, Reading bus number 9 passes the University main entrance and bus 21s stop outside Whiteknights House on campus. Please see more information for buses here: https://www.reading-buses.co.uk/
