Brief Description:

The Welshpool and Llanfair Railway was built in 1903 to link farming communities with the market town of Welshpool to provide them with an outlet for their produce. The railway closed in 1956, but was soon opened as a tourist railway by enthusiasts. Now you can ride on the steam trains, negotiating a viaduct and river bridge, climbing the notoriously steep Golfa Bank and through the beautiful countryside. The journey takes about 45 minutes in each direction; the train is usually at Llanfair Caereinion for about 40 / 50 minutes and at Welshpool for 15 / 25 minutes. You can travel the journey either way.
