Brief Description:

York Minster is the Cathedral of York. The first church recorded on the site was built in 627AD with at least two further churches being built. The current church was built in the 13th Century with building continuing in the 15th Century. It is an English Gothic structure to a cruciform plan. It has octagonal chapter house, a central tower and two towers at the front. Th central tower collapsed in 1407 and was rebuilt in 1420. Then in the 1970’s it was reinforced following a survey which revealed it was close to collapse again. The church features stained glass windows and artefacts, and is a venue for festivals and choir concerts. As well as a place of worship York Minster is also a great vistitor attraction with lots of things to see and go. Guided tours are available.
