Brief Description:

Cardiff Market has been trading in one form or another since the 1700s. The impressive Victorian structure has occupied the same site for over 100 years having been designed by the Borough Surveyor, William Harpur, and opened in May 1891.

Under the glass roof you will find a wealth of products ranging from pots and pans to bread and butter, and from nuts and bolts to rock and roll. The market consists of two shopping levels, a ground floor and a balcony level which wraps around the inside of the market’s exterior walls. You can see details of the current traders on the link: https://www.cardiffcouncilproperty.com/cardiff-market/market-traders/

The market was originally the site of Cardiff gaol - the gallows were located on the current St. Mary Street entrance where Dic Penderyn was hanged on 13 August 1831.
