Accessibility:
There is a small free car park onsite and toilets can be found at the nearby Castle Acre Priory. The site is very uneven without specified pathways and wouldn’t be recommended for wheelchairs, although there is a view of the ruins from the car park.
Brief Description:
Castle Acre Castle is a grade I listed Scheduled Ancient Monument. It was built in the 1070s by William I de Warenne, a close associate of William the Conqueror. De Warenne’s descendants held Castle Acre until 1347 and within three generations had created the castle, surrounded the town with massive ramparts and established its famous Cluniac priory.
