Castlewellan is generally quite hilly, with the hill up from Annsborough village to Castlewellan Main Street being particularly steep.

Castlewellan is a small town in Co. Down, within the Mourne Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is well known for its Forest Park which centres around Castlewellan Lake.

The most central bus stop is Upper Square.

Note that buses take two different routes between Downpatrick and Newcastle; one via Castlewellan (17a), and one via Dundrum (17).

Public toilets are available in Upper Square. These council toilets include less-abled facilities, and operate within the RADAR key system.

Main Street runs through the centre of Castlewellan. Along it you will find a range of food and clothing shops, eateries and pubs, a bank, a library, and a post office.
