Details

Accessibility:

Parking, including disability parking, is available. The cost of parking is covered by the charge for bringing your vehicle into the Castlewellan Forest Park site.

Dogs are allowed but must be kept under control by their owners in the Forest Park to ensure they do not distress other visitors or wildlife.

Due to the size of the park, the trails may prove challenging for those using manual wheelchairs. For example, to include the Peace Maze and Annesley Gardens would involve covering approximately 6 miles (9.7km). In saying this, given the choice of trails, it is possible for visitors to choose a trail that covers a distance they would be comfortable with.

The best available path in Castlewellan Forest Park is given a grade of Blue (Easy), as detailed in https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/forests-facilities-people-disabilities.

Brief description:

Covering 1.7 square miles (4.4 square kilometres), Castlewellan Forest Park centres around a mile-long lake, and includes a variety of trails, camping facilities, and a maze for visitors to enjoy.
