Accessibility:

The closest car park is at the Manchester Arena nearby. There is on-site parking available to blue badge holders. There is no lift inside the building and access to the first floor is via a flight of 18 stairs. Wheelchair users are able to have full access to the collections by using ground floor study rooms. There are toilets on the ground floor of the library, however these are not wheelchair-accessible. There is a history of the library available to view in several languages.

Chetham’s Library is the oldest public library in the English-Speaking world. It also shares the site with The Chetham School of Music.

The library operates a timed entry for visitors, therefore please arrive at one of these times: 10.00am, 11.00am, 12.00pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm or 3.30pm


Directions:

Travelling from Rochdale via M62 (13.2 miles). Take M62 and M60 southbound to junction 17 and take the A56 exit to Manchester City Centre/Prestwich/Whitefield. Follow A56 to Victoria Station Approach.


From Stockport via A57 (9.5 miles). Take M60 northbound. Exit at junction 24 and take the A57 exit to Manchester City Centre/Denton/Hyde/Sheffield. Follow A57, A665 and A6042 to Long Millgate.
