Brief Description:

St Mary’s Church was built in the 13th Century with modifications in the 14th and 15th Century, but there is evidence to suggest the original church dates back to the early 11th Century. It is a Grade I Listed Building and has the highest steeple in York which stands at 47 metres high.  It was deconsecrated in 1958 and became a heritage centre between 1975 and 2001. It is now a contemporary art venue and is part of the York Museums Trust.
