Accessibility:

The theatre has its own large free car park which includes 2 designated blue badge parking bays. There is ramped access into the main entrance, and level access via the entrance in the car park. The theatre has level or ramped access inside making it wheelchair accessible. Motorised scooters are permitted in public areas. There is a platform lift which serves the ground and first floor. There are designated positions for wheelchairs in the auditorium with space for a companion to sit either beside or behind you. There is a wheelchair available to borrow (please ask at reception). There are public toilets including wheelchair accessible facilities. There are no hearing assistance facilities in place. Assistance dogs are welcome.

Brief Description:

The Academy Theatre opened in 2004. It is a family-owned community theatre which has 172 seats, computerised lighting and sound systems. Here you will see both amateur and professional performances. It is used by the Take 2 Performing Arts Academy for their performances.

Directions:

From Barnsley via A61 (4.8 miles). Head north towards Eldon Street. Turn left onto Eldon Street. Turn right into Market Hill. Turn left into Shambles Street. At Townend Roundabout take the 2nd exit onto West Way/A628. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Sheffield Road/A61. Continue to follow A61 and your destination will be on the right.

From Sheffield via M1 (5.9 miles). Take M1 the junction 36, take the A61 exit to Barnsley (South). At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto A61. At the roundabout take the 1st exit onto Sheffield Road/A61. Your destination will be on the left.
