Accessibility:

There is pay and display car parking available around the Theatre. The closest car parks are Merchant Gate and Unity house. They have eight wheelchair spaces and wheelchair accessible toilet facilities. The wheelchair occupant and a companion are entitled to discounted tickets for all performances. Please clearly state at the time of booking if a wheelchair space is required. A hearing induction loop is fitted and assistance dogs are welcome.


Brief Description:

Theatre Royal was built in 1894 and was originally the Wakefield Opera House, it was designed by architect Frank Matcham. During a £4.1 million revamp in 2015 a medieval well was discovered under the stage still full of ground water. The theatre hosts plays, musical performances and pantomimes.

From Leeds via M1 (11.6m). Take New York Road to Marsh Lane. Take A61, M621 and M1 to Snow Hill View/A650 in Wakefield for 9.9 miles. Continue on A650. Drive to Drury Lane.


From Sheffield via M1 (25.8m). Get on M1 from A6109 for 4.9 miles. Follow M1 to Denby Dale Road/A636 in Calder Grove for 17.4 miles. Take the exit from M1. Continue on A636. Drive to Drury Lane in Wakefield.
