Brief Description:

West Tanfield is a village in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire and close to the River Ure. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Tanefield. There is a monument in the village called Marmion Tower which is a 15th Century Gatehouse. It is a Grade I Listed building and is all that remains of the manor house belonging to the Marmion family. Close to the village are the Thornborough Henges which are known as the Stone Henge of the North.
