Brief Description:
Wortley Top Forge is an Industrial Museum which dates back to at least 1640. It is a water powered heavy iron forge that is best known for the wrought iron railway axles that were made from 1840 until the forge closed in 1910. It is now the only water powered heavy iron forge which still has its original buildings, cranes, hammers and working waterwheels. Guided tours are available.
